Fed: Reconcilation report card calls for more action
Political leaders have been urged not to lose interest in reconciliation in the faceof the war on terrorism and the drought.
Reconciliation Australia -- the body in charge of pushing for reconciliation -- hasfound both federal and state governments need to do more to combat Aboriginal disadvantage.
Co-chairs JACKIE HUGGINS and former Liberal frontbencher FRED CHANEY are also criticalof the government's focus on practical reconciliation.
In their report card for 2002, they say symbolic reconciliation is just as crucial, and they've pleaded with politicians to maintain an interest.
They say other pressing concerns such as the war on terrorism and the drought don'texcuse some political leaders' apparent loss of interest in reconciliation as a vitalelement of the domestic social agenda.
