NSW: Man on run after stealing car with 3yo on board

SYDNEY, April 14 AAP - A man is on the run after stealing a car with a three-year-old
on board from outside a shop in Sydney's west.

The young girl, who was unharmed during the ordeal, was reunited with her father shortly
afterwards.

Police said the girl's 26-year-old father, from Mt Pritchard, parked his red Toyota
Corolla outside a mixed business in Fairfield and left the three-year-old girl asleep
on the back seat while he ran inside to purchase some goods about 6.15pm (AEST) on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, an unknown male jumped in the driver's seat and left the scene at high speed.

A member of the public gave chase in his own car until the offender stopped the vehicle
and ran into parkland in Fairfield East.

Police helicopter and the dog unit were called in to search for the offender without success.

The stolen vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Police are continuing their inquiries in a bid to identify and locate the offender.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Tangerine
and Hercules Streets at Fairfield or Landon Street at Fairfield East is urged to contact
Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
