FED:Polls close in eastern states in an hour

Voters in the eastern states have just an hour left to have their say in the 2010 federal
election.

Polls close at 6pm (AEST) in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania ..

half an hour later in South Australia and the Northern Territory ... and two hours later
in Western Australia.

With the election predicted to be the tightest in decades .. JULIA GILLARD and TONY
ABBOTT have still been out campaigning for last-minute votes.

But both leaders have paused to express their sympathies for the families of two more
Australian soldiers killed by an explosive device in Afghanistan.

The deaths of Private GRANT KIRBY .. a 35-year-old father of two .. and 21-year-old
Private TOMAS DALE take the Australian troops' toll in Afghanistan to 20.

Two others were airlifted to hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.
